July 2020 Updates
Loisaba’s team visited Reteti Elephant Sanctuary to see rescued calves thriving in their new home. Reteti, Africa’s first community-run elephant orphanage, rescues orphans while supporting locals. Loisaba also held health clinics, treating 119 patients, and responded to a livestock theft, helping recover stolen cattle with help from police and community leaders.

World Snake Day 2020
World Snake Day is celebrated every year on the 16th of July in order to create awareness of their importance in the ecosystem, and to spread positive messages about this often hated reptile. Snakes are threatened by habitat loss, climate change and disease, but their biggest threat remains negative attitudes towards snakes.

Tusker Rescue
On the 25th of June our ranger team, having sighted a large bull elephant with an obvious limp, began a monitoring and surveillance operation. When it became apparent that the bull’s injury and obvious discomfort was not subsiding any time soon, the call was made for further action.

May 2020 Updates
Loisaba’s Rapid Response Team helped rescue a stuck bull elephant at Nannapa Conservancy. Progress continues toward reintroducing black rhinos, with a recent KWS security assessment. A health clinic treated 50 patients, and food supplies were donated to 70 households impacted by COVID-19. Community support and wildlife conservation efforts remain strong at Loisaba.

Loss of tourism revenue threatens ranger patrols, increases poaching, and reduces community support. At Loisaba, vital services like healthcare and education are tied to ecotourism. With a $1M loss forecasted, donations are urgently needed to sustain efforts.
