How do I get to Loisaba?

 

There are a few options to get to Loisaba from Nairobi: 

 

Commercial Flights

There are daily direct flights to Lewa Downs from Wilson Airport in Nairobi, offered by SafariLink or Air Kenya

 

Private Flights

The Loisaba airstrip also allows private or chartered planes to land and deliver guests. There are a few private charter companies you can contact in and around Nairobi:

Please note: Only 4x4 vehicles in shades of green or brown are permitted within the conservancy.

Do I need any immunizations / vaccinations?

 

No immunisations are required by law to enter Kenya if you are travelling directly from Europe or the US. If you are traveling from a country where Yellow Fever is present you will need to prove you have had the inoculation.

 

Several vaccinations are recommended, they include:

  • Yellow Fever

  • Typhoid

  • Hepatitis A

  • Diptheria

 

It is also recommended that you are up to date with your polio and tetanus vaccinations.

 

Please consult your travel doctor when travelling to East Africa for vaccinations required.

Where is the closest hospital?

 

Loisaba has a well-stocked clinic on site, with nurses available to attend to patients 24 hours a day.  Additionally, there are hospitals in the nearby towns of Meru, Isiolo and Nanyuki.

Is there malaria on Loisaba?

 

Loisaba is a low-risk malaria zone. Please consult your travel doctor when travelling to East Africa for vaccinations required.

Do I need travel insurance?

 

Yes, it is essential to have medical insurance whilst visiting Kenya, and also recommended to take out Flying Doctor cover.

What will the weather be like?

 

Loisaba is situated at 4,500 to 6,500 feet (1,400-2,000 meters) above sea level. The days are usually hot and dry and the nights quite cool. Clothing should be light for the day and warm for the evening game drives and sundowners followed by the night game drive home.

What kind of plug adaptor should I bring?

 

All the camps and lodges on Loisaba are powered by 220V generators. You will be able to charge your camera batteries without any problems. The electric sockets are the British 3-pins standards sockets.
