Things To Do
Game Drives
One of the best ways to view the wildlife at Loisaba is from a safari converted Land Rover on a game drive. Whether you choose to go out early in the morning or later on in the afternoon, a KPSGA (Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association) qualified guide will take you across the open plains, through the central scrub area or along the river.
As a haven for over 350 bird and 60 mammal species, guests can spend time with towers of endangered reticulated giraffes, herds of elephants and endangered Grevy’s zebra, prides of lions, cheetahs and elusive leopards. African wild dogs, thought for many years to be extinct in the region, are once again being sighted at Loisaba. If you are interested in learning about or meeting with our research partners, please do let us know.
Bush Breakfast
There’s nothing quite like breakfast in the African bush. At Loisaba, your day can begin with a sunrise game drive followed by a gourmet breakfast served in the heart of the wilderness — surrounded by sweeping views, birdsong, and the distant calls of wildlife.
Our bush breakfasts are set up in a scenic, remote spot within the conservancy, where guests can step out of the vehicle and enjoy a delicious meal under open skies. This unforgettable experience offers a chance to slow down, take in the landscape, and reflect on the morning’s sightings in the company of expert guides.
Conservation Experience
Step into the heart of Loisaba’s conservation efforts and discover what it takes to protect some of Africa’s most iconic species. Join our field teams as they monitor and study black rhinos, track lions, and collect camera trap data to better understand leopard behaviour. Learn about the migration and identification of elephants, and assist researchers in mapping the movements of endangered reticulated giraffes as part of our long-term monitoring partnerships.
This immersive experience offers an insider’s view of science-led conservation in action—and the dedicated people working tirelessly to ensure these species have a future.

Wildlife Security Experience
Go behind the scenes with our security team to see how conservation is protected on the ground. Start with a visit to our Operations Room, where cutting-edge monitoring technology helps track wildlife and detect threats in real time. Then meet our highly trained tracker dogs—Memusi, Nanyokie, Scully, and Mulder—during a live demonstration showcasing their work in search and rescue, intruder tracking, and anti-poaching patrols.
This is a rare chance to see how security, community collaboration, and technology work together to keep Loisaba’s wildlife safe.

Bush Walks
A great way to truly experience Loisaba is on foot. Bush walks offer an intimate, slow-paced exploration of the conservancy — where every track, scent, and sound tells a story. Accompanied by one of our experienced guides and a Loisaba ranger, you’ll follow wildlife trails, learn to identify animal tracks and bird calls, and discover the intricate web of life that sustains this unique ecosystem. Our rangers’ knowledge of local flora and fauna is unmatched — they’ll introduce you to medicinal plants, termite mounds, animal behaviour, and traditional uses of the landscape by Samburu and Laikipia Maasai communities.
These walks can be tailored to your interests and fitness level — whether it’s a gentle stroll with a focus on botany and birdlife, or a longer hike through dramatic escarpments and river valleys. Either way, it’s a chance to connect with nature in its purest form.
Horse Riding
Discover the magic of Loisaba from the saddle, where horseback safaris offer a unique and intimate way to experience the wild. Riding quietly across the plains allows you to approach wildlife in a calm, unobtrusive manner — whether you're trotting beside a herd of zebras, weaving through giraffes, or observing elephants from an unforgettable vantage point.
Our horses and ponies are all reared in the bush and accustomed to the sights, sounds, and scents of wildlife, making them calm and responsive companions on your ride. With no engine noise or dust trails, you’ll blend seamlessly into the landscape — gaining a deeper connection with nature and seeing the conservancy through the eyes of the animals who call it home. Each ride is led by an experienced guide. Guests must confirm their riding ability in advance to ensure an enjoyable experience for all.
Cultural Visits
For an enriching cultural experience, take an afternoon to visit one of the traditional manyattas (villages) neighbouring Loisaba Conservancy. Guided by local hosts, you’ll gain insight into the customs, daily life, and traditions of the Samburu or Laikipiak Maasai communities who have lived in harmony with wildlife here for generations.
Watch traditional dancing, learn about pastoralist heritage, and browse beautiful handcrafted beadwork — each piece telling its own story. These visits are not only immersive but directly support community livelihoods, offering guests a chance to connect meaningfully while contributing to cultural preservation and economic empowerment.
Camel Riding
Camels have long been the preferred mode of transport across Northern Kenya’s arid landscapes — and they offer a truly unique perspective for exploring Loisaba. Led by experienced guides, a camel ride is a peaceful and authentic way to take in the sights, sounds, and scents of the bush at a slower pace.
Whether it’s a short ride from camp or a longer trek through the plains, this traditional experience connects you with both the land and its people in a memorable way.
Fishing
Fishing at Loisaba offers a tranquil escape, whether you’re an avid angler or a curious beginner. Available year-round at the river or dams, it’s a relaxing way to enjoy the conservancy’s quieter corners. Both modern and traditional equipment can be provided, along with refreshments or a picnic to complete the experience.
Settle in under the shade of an acacia, cast your line, and enjoy the serenity of the wild.
