OPerations

At Loisaba Conservancy, the Operations Department is the engine that powers conservation efforts, ensuring that every aspect of the conservancy functions seamlessly. While the work of rangers and researchers is often in the spotlight, the behind-the-scenes work of the Operations team is equally crucial in supporting Loisaba’s mission.

Finance Team

The Finance Team is essential for the smooth operation of Loisaba, managing budgets, funding, and financial planning. They ensure that all conservation activities have the necessary resources, enabling Loisaba to continue its vital work in protecting wildlife and supporting community initiatives.

Human Resources (HR) Department.

The HR Department plays a vital role in building a strong, committed workforce. By increasing job opportunities for local community members, HR not only boosts the local economy but also fosters a deep connection between the community and conservation efforts. This inclusion is key to creating a sustainable and supportive environment for wildlife.

Livestock Department

Loisaba Conservancy is at the forefront of livestock and conservation land management, demonstrating that wildlife and livestock can – and need to - coexist. Our Livestock Department plays a crucial role in this mission, carefully managing cattle grazing and maintaining water resources such as dams to ensure a consistent supply of food and water for both livestock and wildlife. This approach has transformed Loisaba into a haven for endangered species, including the African wild dog and Grevy’s zebra, as well as supporting large populations of rhinos, elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards, and cheetahs.

By aligning livestock management with conservation goals, Loisaba not only generates revenue but also serves as a living model of sustainable rangeland management. The research conducted by our Livestock Department offers valuable insights into how traditional pastoralist practices can coexist with modern conservation strategies, reinforcing our commitment to a future where humans and wildlife thrive together.

Workshop Department

Operating in the remote landscape of Loisaba requires robust infrastructure. The Workshop Department ensures that all facilities, vehicles, and essential services are maintained and functional. This includes maintaining the solar power systems that provide sustainable energy and servicing vehicles that are critical for conservation outreach and community support. The department also extends its services to surrounding communities, ensuring broader regional benefits.

Administrative Function

The Administrative team handles the necessary paperwork, licensing, and permits that keep Loisaba’s operations compliant and efficient. Their work ensures that all departments can function without bureaucratic delays, enabling the conservancy to focus on its core mission of conservation and community engagement.

Together, these departments form the backbone of Loisaba Conservancy, proving that every role—no matter how behind-the-scenes—is crucial to the success of conservation.
