Giving Tuesday is a global day dedicated to generosity and collective action. Around the world, people pause to support the causes they believe in, and at Loisaba, this day carries particular meaning.

Loisaba is home to Kenya’s newest black rhino sanctuary. In 2024, 21 eastern black rhinos were translocated here, marking the first major expansion of rhino range in the country in over a generation. This year, the first calves were born on the Conservancy — a significant sign that the population is settling, adapting, and beginning to grow.

Protecting each rhino at Loisaba requires extensive effort: 24-hour ranger patrols, aerial monitoring, veterinary care, advanced tracking, and strong partnerships with surrounding communities. These operations cost approximately USD 30,000 per rhino each year, and support from individuals helps sustain this work.

How You Can Be Part of This Effort

Adopt a Rhino – USD 500 per year

Four rhinos are currently available for adoption:

  • William

  • Ekwang

  • Margaret

  • Kibou

Adoption includes a personalised certificate and twice-yearly updates on your rhino. More importantly, it contributes directly to the protection of these critically endangered animals.

Name a Rhino – USD 15,000 + USD 2,500 annual commitment

Two male calves born this year — on 17 September and 27 October — are now available for naming. As some of the first rhinos born at Loisaba, they represent an important milestone for the Conservancy. The chosen names will be entered into the Kenya Wildlife Service’s official records and will follow the animals for life.

A Different Approach to Giving

While many Giving Tuesday campaigns look similar, supporting rhinos at Loisaba offers something unique. Naming or adopting a rhino is a meaningful act that supports long-term conservation and creates a lasting connection with an individual animal in Kenya’s newest sanctuary. It is a way to give that stands apart from the usual appeals and contributes directly to the future of a species.
