This September, Loisaba Conservancy joined more than 170 ranger teams across 24 African countries in the Wildlife Ranger Challenge (WRC) — a continent-wide campaign that highlights the essential role of rangers in protecting biodiversity, supporting communities, and defending climate resilience.

Organised by Tusk and the Game Rangers Association of Africa, the Challenge is more than a race. Since 2020, it has become the largest annual celebration of Africa’s wildlife rangers, raising over $21 million and supporting more than 11,500 rangers.

At Loisaba, our rangers entered the 21km race determined to show their strength. An untimely injury meant they could not finish — but the true success was never about crossing the finish line. Together with our supporters, we raised $18,769, which, with Tusk’s 25% match, totals $23,461.25 for rhino conservation and ranger support.

These funds will directly strengthen the team that patrols and protects Loisaba’s 58,000 acres, safeguarding critically endangered black rhinos and their habitats. From monitoring wildlife and preventing poaching, to building community trust and responding to crises, rangers are the backbone of conservation.

The Wildlife Ranger Challenge recognises that rangers are not just guardians of wildlife — they are educators, peacekeepers, and community leaders. This year’s event coincided with the African Ranger Congress, which focused on long-term investment, professionalisation, and fair standards for rangers across the continent.

Loisaba is proud to stand with Tusk and the wider ranger movement. Thank you to everyone who donated and to our dedicated rangers, whose commitment ensures a future where rhinos and people can thrive together.
